Bishop McDevitt Track & Field

About Us

Bishop McDevitt High School in Harrisburg, PA has a strong, proud tradition of excellence in sports, academics, and civic duty.  Due to our enrollment, most students at McDevitt are "multiple-threat" participants.  Thus, it isn't at all unusual to find three or four sport athletes who also participate in academic and extracurricular clubs (science olympiad, future business leaders, etc.) .

We are very excited about our wonderful new campus at 1 Crusader Way.  An 8 lane track, jumping pits, and throwing areas surround our beautiful new football field in our state-of-the-art stadium.  While a part of the "Rockpile" is still here (and will remain in the hearts of the Crusader faithful) we are looking forward to making new memories at this multi-sport facility on our 80+ acre campus.  For the track team, this is a momentous change as we were without a track for the modern era.

Bishop McDevitt High School's Crusader Track Team has two "eras".  The modern era dates back to about 1998, when Dan McGinnis restarted the program.  Unfortunately, all records from the prior program (which had lapsed) were lost.  So, the current school records may not be the best ever achieved.

The other, notable change in the modern era has been the moves between AAA and AA.  As a small school of about 700 students, Bishop McDevitt struggled to compete at Districts and States against the larger AAA schools.  While we had many fine and accomplished athletes during that time, it was only when we were reclassified as a AA school for the 2006 season, that we became a real contender for the District 3 and PIAA State championships.  But now we begin the 2015 season as a AAA member and we are excited and energized by the challenge!  We expect to contend for titles and individual medals with the promise of our expanding enrollment and the successes we have enjoyed - especially over the past decade.

In 2009, the boys team not only repeated as District 3 AA champions, they went on to win States!  This was after our medal-favorite 4x100 team  was hit with a last minute injury and failed to qualify for the medal round.  Our little school, without a usable home track, couldn't be more proud of our State Champion Crusaders and we have very high hopes for this year's team.

In 2011, the Girls won the AA MidPenn Championships AA and went on to win District III AA!
